5 year check-up
Kana was sassy at her 5 year checkup. She was cracking up Dr.Jen & the nurses. She told them the vision test was "way too easy". She only needed a TB test & flu shot this year, so she was happy there were no more vaccines. She was excited about the book, sticker & ring she got to take home. ;0)

Happy 5th Birthday sweet Kana!
Kana's B-day fell on Labor Day this year so we had her party a week early before starting at a new school. Everyone had a blast at her beach party! Auntie Steff & Uncle Bob flew in with special cake pops for the party. The kids enjoyed face painting, a treasure hunt & fun art projects in the sand! We gave out ice cream scoop sand toys to all the kids. It was overcast so no one got too hot. We celebrated at the base of Ave C stairs in Redondo Beach again this year. Pizza was delivered & treats were enjoyed by all. Father Dave even came to Kana's party after she decided to invite him herself after church. Kana had a fabulous day full of fun!
On Kana's actual birthday we let her choose what she wanted to do. We thought she would want to go to Disneyland, but she chose swimming with mommy & daddy at the Torrance community pool, followed by dinner at The Counter & Yogurtland for desert! She loves to swim now & show off her skills. She's getting so good!!! She was excited to tread water for 2 mins. The pool staff were quite impressed that she chose swimming for her bday so they gave her a special stamp, a swim medal & free entrance. She had a great birthday week!!!

1st day of school (TK)
Kana tried out the Child Development Center after school program yesterday. She was excited to play at first & went right off to play with a new friend she met at a kinder play date. When I picked her up 3 hours later, she was in tears & said " I'm never coming back here. Those people treated me poorly!" Apparently she had fun with her new friend until she lost her new mermaid crayons & she asked the teacher to call me because she was tired & wanted to go home. When they didn't give in to her demands, she lost it. ;0( We're hoping she warms up to it because we won't pay for it if she absolutely hates it. I hyped it up to be a fun after school lunch play date with friends 3x a week. I was just going to leave her there an hour or two to play after school. They're open 6:30am-6pm so we planned to only use the extended hours it as backup when my flts get delayed. We'll see....
Kana was both excited & scared for Transition Kindergarden today (for all the kids turning 5 in Sept-Dec). She met her teacher, Mrs.C, once this summer & loved her right away, so we're hoping it goes well today. She slept in until 7am this morning, but she has a new checkoff chart game to get ready, so that works well. Kana was very sad & clingy at drop off, but luckily no tears. The teacher let the parents do a hand tracing activity with their kid & we wrote what the kid was feeling. Other kids said "cool" & "excited"..... Kana said "sad".
School is 8am-11:20am, so she gets to come home early for lunch on the days that she doesn't go to the CDC after class. It's a rough transition going from the comfort of the co-op preschool with mom's in the classroom everyday to regular school with all new people. I volunteered to help in the classroom once a week though, so she's quite excited about that. She's growing up so fast!!!

Swim
Kana loved her 2 week summer swim class! She wants to buy a new swim noodle for teacher Tanya with her own money because she says the noodles at swim schools have bites in them. Lol We explained that the city of Torrance buys the swim equipment. She says that's ok, teacher Tanya can take hers home & no kids can take a bite out of it then. Too cute!!! She didn't like swim lessons last year so we're so relieved she's finally having fun in the pool. Having friends at school that have swim parties has given her motivation to learn now. Just being a little older & having a cool female swim teacher helped too! Funny that we paid a fortune at the swim school for semi-privates last year & when she refused to do anything & cried. This year she's in the community class ($50 for 10 sessions) & she loves it! We signed her up for another 2 weeks in August.
