Happy New Year!

I hope you all have big party plans for tonight. Maybe I'll get to stay up until 6:45pm! oooohhhh! We'll see if I can handle it.
I've been acting a little strange lately, sleeping in past 7am and turning down food and milk. Well, daddy discovered the reason this morning...TOOTH #13! It's here! I am only a few teeth away from a full set! Whohoo!
Happy New Year everyone! I have big plans for 2010! I'm almost 16 months old!
We hope to fly somewhere fun soon, but those TSA's are putting a damper on the plans. If I can't be on someone's lap the last hour of flight, where will I go? ;o)
Enjoy the pics from this week.
I'm playing the the rain, kicking it in my new chair, and eating my very own apple with daddy on the couch.  I can climb up by myself now, it's very exciting!

"baby!"..... my cousin Ethan

My second favorite word, after "ball", is now "baby". (I sound like Vince Vaughn in Swingers.) My 3 month old cousin Ethan was here for Christmas night and I was so excited I could hardly sleep. He's so tiny and cute. He only weighs 12 lbs. Can you remember when I weighed just 12 lbs? I kept screaming "baby!" from my room, in case he was having a party without me.
I had a great Christmas.  Mommy and Daddy took me to family mass at 4pm where all the kids can be wiggly and noisy and we don't have to stay up until Midnight. That's a good thing since I can't handle being up past 6:30pm.  I took my time opening my gifts on Christmas morning because the boxes  and wrapping were so fun to play with.
Yesterday we had a fun photo shoot on the beach with Aunt Elaine and Uncle Mike. They don't take pictures every second of their life like I do, so this was a real treat. I think my cousin would have stopped crying if only he had joined me in eating the yummy sand. It's so delicious, I can't get enough. ;o)-
Thank you to my great grandma who sent me the cutest little red outfit! Everyone thought I looked like a little doll.  I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas! xox

Christmas is coming

A lot has been happening since the Xmas card photos. I've been helping Mommy bake, I've been eating a lot, been learning to step up on things, sit down on things and sit in things. I'm up to 26 words on my vocabulary list. Daddy has been teaching me to stick out my tongue and look fierce. I have the tongue thing down but not the fierce part but I have been practicing my "looking cute" poses. I am a full fledged giraffe wrangler and rider now. I have to hide in my blind and sneak up on them like the guy on "Wild Kingdom"used to do (I don't mean Marlin Perkins. The other guy who did all the work, Jim). With all that danger, I have taken to wearing helmets be they real or imaginary. All of this learning gets a girl plumb tuckered out. Only 4 more days till Christmas. I can't wait!

Christmas Card Outtakes

We had a great time at the beach taking pictures with Daddy's new camera this weekend. I really enjoyed eating sand and getting dirty as you will see in the slideshow. Kiwi didn't make it on the card this year since I am more than enough to handle for the photo shoot... (p.s. The monkeyfist could never replace you, Aunt Megan)

I'm 15 months old!

I have 12 teeth now! I still have a little bit of a cough at night, but I'm feeling great. I'm full of energy, very happy and cuddly lately!
I found some muffin cups in the cupboard and tried to bake them in my salad spinner, it didn't work very well, so mommy let me bake some real muffins! They were delicious and made a huge mess!
My newest obsession is jumping on Kiwi's dog bed. This drives mommy nuts. She is constantly sanitizing me and cleaning the house so I don't get covered in dog hair and germs, but I like to roll on Kiwi's bed to make sure I am nice and dirty!
I love to run around looking at all of the Christmas decorations around the house. My favorite is the musical gingerbread house. I get to push the button and then I dance and giggle. It's great fun!
I spent most of the week playing with my best buddy, Finn. People think we are twins when we are out together because of our bright blue eyes. We attract quite a bit of attention! We've been testing out the best playgrounds in town. Anderson Park is our favorite. I can even go down the slide by myself now! The weather is getting a little cooler, so we have to bundle up. Mommy enjoys this because she loves to dress me in cute boots and hats. When I say it's getting cold, it's only about 61 degrees, so I don't think it's going to be a white Christmas in Redondo Beach. Daddy says we'll drive to see the snow this winter though.
Santa came to our street yesterday, but I couldn't stay awake long enough to see him. I tried, but I am really stuck on that 6:15 bed time. I can't handle anything later.
I opened my "Little People" Nativity tonight. It was very exciting! Daddy let me sit in the box of packing peanuts. I am hamming it up for the camera every time I see one. I'm getting really good at posing with my "Cheese" smile.
Enjoy the slideshow!

Thanksgiving '09

What a great Thanksgiving. We had Papa, Gramma, Nana and Steph here for the occasion. I went to the park in the morning while everyone was cooking. After the park it was naptime but the cooking food smelled so good I couldn't sleep for long. I thought I might miss out. When dinner was ready I had some of everything and I do mean everything. I was like "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" and ate everything I could get my hands on. The turkey was the best and as you can see I had my share and then some. After dinner it was time to head down to the beach. Normally we eat at the beach but since I have a problem with eating sand Mommy and Daddy thought it would be much easier to just go to the beach after we ate. I had a fun time watching the sun set and playing in the sand, collecting rocks and getting Mommy's pants wet in the water. I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving too.
Love,
Kana

Here are 2 shots of me the day before Thanksgiving that I didn't want you to miss.

Flu Shots

I saw Dr. Jen today about my lingering cold. My cough won't go away but she says I'm otherwise healthy and full of energy, so I'll be just fine.
They gave me a shot in each chunky thigh. I took it like a champ. I got the 2nd dose of the seasonal flu shot in one leg and the 1st dose of the H1N1 vaccine in the other. They even gave me a lion sticker for my hand! I can growl like a lion quite well. My latest animal noise is an adorable whisper "meow" when I see a kitty.
Daddy teaches me all of the animal sounds when we read books.
I weighed 27 lbs today.
I had a great day with mommy and nana. From my fancy hairdo, I bet you already guessed she was back in town. ;o) I sampled lots of new veggies for dinner. It was great fun. I love all food, I don't turn anything down... but my latest obsession is crunching on snow peas and carrots. Yummy!
Daddy is working late tonight. He is always the one that puts me to bed, so I really miss him. xoxo

Sick

Daddy and I are both sick with a cold. I am going on day #10! It's been rough. To top it off, I got 2 more molars in this week! Mommy doesn't know if I am waking up at 2am because of my cough, my new teeth, separation anxiety or just because I want to party. That was the case last night. I ran around my room looking for toys in the dark. It was great fun!

Here is a picture of me taking charge of my own nap time in the middle of the room and a great shot of my black eye from Halloween. I was on a great sleep schedule before daylight savings messed everything up. I was sleeping 6:45pm-7am and then napping once at 11:30 for 2+ hours. It was great. Mommy could schedule fun play dates with my predictable schedule. Now I am melting down by 6pm, so dinner had better be on the table by 5! I'm getting up around 6am and we are back to 2 naps a day. I like to keep Mommy and Daddy on their toes.

I'll post more for my fans when I am feeling a little better. Hopefully that will be very soon! ;o)

More Trick or Treating

This was my first time Trick or Treating and I loved it. Once again I was adorable in my Dalmatian costume. Kiwi and I matched but I can't say much for the parents costumes. I have to admit I was a bit embarrassed to be seen out in public with them looking the way they did. Maybe next year they will do a bit better. One can only hope.
Mommy looked good in her " just got back from the country club" outfit but Daddy looked like he was straight out of a John Hughes movie and the worst part of it was all of that stuff was in his closet. I will post more photos later but I'm a bit out of whack right now due to the time change.

* By the way, the black eye was not makeup applied to enhance my costume. I fell on a table at Josh & Lydia's house right before trick or treating. It was pretty bad. Mommy still runs into things all the time, so apparently there is no hope for me to grow out of this clumsy stage.

Doggie Halloween

Here are some pictures at the dog park last weekend with Kiwi. Our matching costumes were a big hit! I am getting a lot of use out of this adorable costume. Mommy has me wearing it all month. I have quite the social calendar lately. We went to the Pumpkin Race in Manhattan Beach today and then to the Halloween party at church. Mommy packed broccoli, squash and cucumber for my healthy dinner. Since I was so good, I got a special treat for dessert. I ate a messy orange cookie that I decorated myself, as you can see. It was delicious! Yummy!
I've also learned how to say "Cheese" when I pose for the camera. Enjoy the pictures of me "hamming it up" for my morning photo shoot.

Pumpkins in the Park

Thank you Nana for making me the coolest doggie costume in town... literally and figuratively. The heat wave was brutal for those kids in felt, fleece and plastic.
I really enjoyed the cookie decorating and puppet show at the park.(Especially when the little boy next to me didn't notice that I was trying to steal his hotdog.)

Tomorrow we're going to the Dog Park for another Halloween Party. Kiwi and I have matching outfits, it's going to be great fun!

Manhattan Beach Hometown Fair

The hometown fair was sooo cool!
On Saturday we got to check out all the booths. On Sunday I got to go in the petting zoo twice! The piggie was my favorite. I also got to run around and dance to live music, see the pirate show in the park, visit the doggies at the firehouse, do a little shopping and have a picnic!

A Dog's Life

I have an announcement that will come as a surprise to everyone. I am forgoing life as a human and I have asked mommy and daddy to raise me like a dog. You see the first thing I say when I get up in the morning is oof (that means woof). I want to see Kiwi right away. I follow him around all day, I try to play with all his toys and I grind my teeth so I can make the same noise Kiwi makes when he chews his bone. I love my old teething rings becasue now I can be more like Kiwi. I prefer to drink water out of his bowl instead of my sippy cup. I have already tried a piece of his food and I quite liked it. (It's good, isn't it Aunt Megan?) Daddy wouldn't let me take more from Kiwi's bowl though. I love to watch Kiwi play ball and I am getting much better at playing ball myself so mommy is very hopeful of that.
Kiwi is a great teacher. I think the best thing I've learned from him so far is how to beg. He is a master at the art of begging and I am but a tenderfoot in the game. So far I have learned to beg standing and sitting, in the kitchen and in the family room and of course I can now beg both through sign and voice.
It is definitely a dogs life for me. Now if only I could grow a tail.........

I'm officially WALKING now!

I'm 13 months old today.
Soooo, I've been taking about 2 steps at a time for about a month now, just a teaser.
Today I decided to take the plunge and strung over 10 steps together when daddy got home from work! No more cruising for me.
Daddy called mommy at work and announced "We have a Walker now!".
Watch out world! I'm wild and free!

Getting Wet

It's HOT in Redondo Beach again and since we don't have a pool or air conditioning I had to take the poor man's route to cooling off. The Hose and Buckets! Mommy and Daddy sprayed me with the hose and let me play with the bowls full of water. Kiwi had a fun time too. Water is soooooooo much fun.

12 month measurements

On 9/11/09 Kana got 3 (of 5) shots at her 12 month appt. We had the option to schedule the last 2 shots a month later so she didn't have to get too many at once. She was a champ, as usual. She cries for a second and is laughing by the time we get to the parking lot. She stayed home with Kiwi and Nana for a few days while Mommy & Daddy went to a wedding in Texas and made an appearance at the annual dive club trip in Cozumel.
She is just barely on the chart for weight now (95%) but just over for height! Her doctor says everything is great, since she is still on the same growth curve.
She is 24.08 lbs and 31.75 inches.
(The nurse used the adult scale instead of the infant one, so it may not have been accurate. Her next appointment weigh-in was over 25lbs, so she was probably 25.08lbs at 1 year - off the charts.)

We had a little scare today when the babysitter called, worried that Kana may have the chicken pox! Mommy rushed home and took Kana to the pediatrician to see what the tiny pink dots were all about. The doctor says it's just a virus, a strange rash, but Kana feels fine and it should go away on it's own in a few days, whew! That was close!
We have plans to go swimming at the beach with all her friends tomorrow.

My big birthday party

Saturday was the big one! My first party was a small one with Papa and Gramma. My second was a joint birthday celebration with Nana. Yesterday's was the big shindig! All my friends showed up and we had a great time. My Gramdpa Glenn and my godmother Steff even flew in just for the day! (Auntie Steff I'm going to get you an alarm clock for your next birthday.) We were supposed to have the party at a park down the street, but when mommy went by on Thursday the playground was all torn up and undergoing a renovation, so after some re-planning, the party was relocated to Veterans Park in Redondo Beach. The new park was nice because it was next to the ocean. I looked very pretty, if I do say so myself, in my red dress. As usual I was eating nonstop. Clearly mommy doesn't feed me enough so I am forced to take food off of other people's plates. I am such a mooch. Daddy thinks my first spoken phrase will be, "Are you going to eat that?" Nana baked me a special sugar free carrot-apple cake, it was delicious as an appetizer to the real cupcakes. I had to sample both, of course. Yum! Yum!
Thanks to everyone who showed up to my parties. They wouldn't have been the same without you.

Kana's 1st Birthday

Today is my Birthday. Yeah for me! I am One Year Young today. It has been a fantastic week. On Friday, Papa and Gramma showed up (with gifts and cake). I was very excited and pleasantly surprised. We had a small early birthday party on Saturday. We planned on going to the park but it was ridiculously hot. Then we were going to gather in the back yard but Mommy was concerned with the yellow jackets buzzing around sooooooooooooo we ended up in the shade in front of the garage. Not the most scenic place for a party, but I had a blast eating and opening my presents. I don't care how much Mommy and Daddy pay to live in this great "beach weather," I am voting for some AC. (Coastal breeze, my little fanny.) That was my first, first birthday party. We all spent the rest of the weekend trying to keep cool, mainly by not being in the house/sauna. We went to cool restaurants and to the beach. We even went over to Papa and Gramma's hotel to enjoy the pool and the AC in their room.
On Tuesday, I had play dates with all my little friends, which I really enjoyed. I shared my new birthday toys with the boys. I'm a big fan of the "Little People"!
Nana showed up with my buddy Kiwi at "Oh Dark Hundred" this morning so we could celebrate our birthday's together. I was so excited that I couldn't nap. It took Mommy 3 tries to finally get me down. After I woke from my nap, Mommy, Nana and I spent the day at the LB Aquarium ( boy do I love that place). I was laughing and dancing all day. When Daddy got home from work we went out to Red Robin for birthday celebration #2! Nana and I got free birthday dinners, and to top it off they threw in a song with Ice Cream Sundays for the birthday girls! My first taste of Ice Cream... I quite enjoyed it, as you can tell. When we got home, we opened more presents and sang the birthday song with cake again. We didn't eat this one though, maybe tomorrow. I am exhausted from all this partying so I'm off to bed.

Summer Vacation is Almost Over

Daddy goes back to school on Friday, so our fun summer is coming to an end. We've really enjoyed our daddy-daughter time together. I've been testing his patience with my crazy nap schedule lately, but I know he's really going to miss being home with me.

Mommy just got back from New York and Nana is driving down with Kiwi, so I will have a new captive audience to wear out soon.

Mommy & Daddy found a cool video monitor on craig's list, so they can SEE me napping now instead of just hearing me throwing a tantrum. I will really have to perform in front of the camera now that I know they are watching. Doggie and I will have to learn a new dance routine or something to really impress our audience. They've already seen his flying out of the crib routine.

I have my big birthday coming up next week. I am so excited to be turning 1! I can stand up on my own now, but I'm waiting to surprise everyone when I decide to take my first steps. I have a lot of visitors coming soon, so maybe I will make my walking debut then!

I'm Everywhere

The Beach, the Aquarium, Santa Barbara, the Zoo and the Butterfly exhibit in less than a week. Where will I go next?

So Cool

Wow. I am so excited I can hardly type. I just got back from my first trip to Santa Barbara and I loved it. Mommy had to do a presentation up there so daddy and I tagged along and boy was it worth it. Aunt Elaine invited us to visit her at work. Now I know that doesn't sound very cool and exciting but she works at............. the ZOO! This was my first trip to any zoo so from that standpoint it was pretty cool anyway but I got to feed the giraffes. Aunt Elaine gave us the behind the scenes tour of the Giraffe enclosure and we got up close and personal with them. They ate right out of my hand and a couple of times they kind of ate my hand too. I wasn't scared though. I'm a Tough Chick that and the fact that both giraffe were very gentle. I was surprisingly gentle as well. We fed them these red biscuits that tasted like really densely packed bran. You are probably wondering how I know that? Daddy tried one because Elaine said that humans have eaten them. He didn't care for it. We got to feed the giraffe for about 10 minutes before we ran out of food. The rest of the zoo was nice but I will write about that later when I have more time. I am supposed to be sleeping right now but I snuck out of my crib to use the computer. Well back to bed for me. Good night for now.

Raider of the Open Fridge

I have discovered a magical place. They call it the "fridge". I don't know what that means but I do know it holds a lot of food. As you may know I am kind of fond of eating. I'm not really a discriminating or picky eater. Basically if you put it in front of me, I will put it in my mouth. Daddy left the door to the fridge open the other day I decided to take a closer look. This was made all the easier since I am now able to stand if I hold onto stuff. In this shot I found a mango. If I have another opportunity who knows what I might find, maybe some turkey meatballs or some blueberries.
With this new power of standing, nothing is safe from me below 3 feet. Yes, I have quite the reach. I love to pull stuff off tables and chairs. Standing has also given me the ability to beg for more food. When mommy and daddy sit down to eat after they've fed me dinner I can just mosey on over, take a look at what they are eating and try to help myself. They call me Kiwi when I do this since he is the king of all beggars.
Did I mention I am almost 1 year old. Yep that's right. In less than a month I will be one and then I won't have to be described in months any more. When someone ask, "How old is she?" mommy and daddy can just say "1".

My Vacation

My life is tough so it was good to get away for a while. I spend 9 days with Aunt Megan, Uncle James, Harrison and Owen in Portland. It was great to have some people around closer to my age. Don't get me wrong. I like spending the summer with Daddy but let's face it, he's no spring chicken. Harrison and Owen get me cause they remember what life is like for me. Aunt Megan took great care of me when mommy and daddy went to Rome. I was on my best behavior. I wanted to be sure that I was invited back once the AC is installed. Now I can't say that I didn't show my dark side while I was there. I just showed it when my parents were around and they weren't too excited about that. I really freaked them out Sunday night after they spent 3 days getting back from Rome. I was a bit perturbed that they ditched me so I put on my best tantrums. They were so worried that something was wrong with me they woke up Uncle James at midnight to check me out. I didn't have a temp and my lungs were clear so they chalked it up to teething. Yup, I have another tooth and I think some more are on the way. I did come down with a runny nose for the flight home yesterday but it didn't really bother me. What did bother me was that I was really tired and I couldn't sleep well on the plane. I'm sure glad I'm cute cause otherwise the folks around me on the plane wouldn't have been so nice. It also helped that I greeted everyone with my big smile as they walked down the aisle while boarding.
I thought I would throw in a great pic taken by Aunt Megan of me and the boys on the lawn. We had some good times and lots of fun.

Aquarium

Had a really cool day today. Daddy took me to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach. It was sooooooo much fun. I got to see jellyfish and a turtle and fish and well lots of neat stuff. I saw the Bat rays fed up close. So close they splashed water all over daddy. I saw some big sharks and some little sharks too. Daddy wouldn't let me pet the stingrays because he says I'm not gentle enough yet. Whatever! I bite his arm really hard one time and he thinks I'm going to pull a stingray's tail. He is right though. Those tails looked so grabbable. Maybe when I'm older. I like watching the seals and sea lions zoom by. I think my swimming abilities are not quite as good as theirs but I'm getting close. I was very impressed with the clown fish. They made me giggle. I can't wait until I can go SCUBA diving with Mommy and Daddy. Since I enjoyed myself so much, Daddy got us a membership so we can go back all the time. Yeaaaaaaah!
I'm looking froward to getting on a plane this Sat and heading up to Portland to see my peeps. Megan, James, Harrison and Owen I hope you are ready for me cause I'm gonna bring it.

My fun weekend

It's a heat wave!
We went for a long walk to the Hawaiian festival and the park on Saturday. I got a pretty new aloha dress.
I went swimming in the ocean with mommy & daddy after church on the beach on Sunday.
I was scared of the waves at first, but then I saw some nudie doody kids swimming near by and I decided to show off my swimming skills. I ate a lot of sand! It was a great weekend.

I'm ready for vacation!

Mommy has been prepping me for my big Portland vacation in a few weeks. She left me with my best buddy, Finn & his daddy yesterday while the mommies went shopping in Bev Hills.
I was the perfect house guest. Finn was napping when I got there, but I didn't mind. I entertained myself with his toys. When he woke up, we happily chased each other around the room, screeching and fighting over toys. Then I went down for my nap, just on time, like a good girl. No problem. I had my doggie there to cuddle with, so I was fine. Later, we danced to music & had a snack. Finn showed me how to get into lot's of trouble, crawling up onto the couch, around the barriers and down the hall so we could play in his room. His daddy got it all on video so mommy could get a good laugh.
Finn spent some time at our house last week and he was not as happy. He was scared of me and missed his mommy, so he cried and they had to come back for him. I think he likes it better when I visit his domain. I'm easy, I like to play anywhere. I'm a tough chick. As soon as I got home, I decided to show mommy what I'd learned. I crawled up the stairs on my own for the 1st time. Watch out world, here I come!
I'm quite the social butterfly lately. I've been on play dates at the park and house parties all week! It's been exhausting, but so much fun!

June Slideshow

As you can see, Kana is learning to "cruise" now... hitting her head on every piece of furniture she can find as she pulls herself to a stand. She also likes to scoot into the corner of the crib and bang her head, waking herself up in the night.
She's enjoying the summer, with weekly play dates and trips to the park. ;o)
Tooth #7 is trying to break through.
We can't believe she's 10 months old this week!

Crawling

I am a girl in motion and I can't get enough. I love to crawl. Looooove it. the freedom is incredible. I don't have to roll any more and I can see where I am going. I seem to be getting into more trouble these days though. Suddenly things are off limits. Hey, I don't mean to break or destroy things. Hah hah hah! I can't believe I said that with a straight face. I love to rip and tear and knock things over. It is soooooooo much fun. I can entertain myself with a magazine for hours and the confetti I make is so beautiful but mommy and daddy won't let me eat it. I just love the way the paper feels in my mouth. Don't get the idea that I'm an unenlightened cretin who doesn't appreciate good literature. I stare in awe at the pages when Daddy reads "Oh the Wonderful Sounds Mr. Brown can Do" or "Olivia" or "Snuggle Puppy." Literary classics. I am almost 10 months old and I think I'm going on 4. I am a sophisticated toddler not a little baby anymore.

I'm back

It is amazing how busy a nine month old can be. I've just been going nonstop. I got to spend the Memorial weekend in Newport Beach with Papa and Gramma. As you can see, I spent some time in the swimming pool there. We went in the "Quiet Pool" and I was on my best behavior so I kept my screeching to a minimum. We ended up in there because I didn't want to hang out with all the big kids. When Papa and Gramma stopped by to see me on their way home I was so excited that I scooted across the room on my back to see both of them. I scooted about 10 feet over to Gramma, turned 90 degrees to my left and scooted about 4 feet over to Papa. Everyone was laughing at me but in a good way.

This past Saturday Mommy was at a group exercise seminar so it was a daddy/daughter day. We did all those exciting things that dads and daughters do; eat, go to Costco, nap, take Kiwi for a walk and .... Oh did I mention napping? We both had a good time and mommy got to have a day of working out. My Nana and great grandma Gloria are in town right now so it's a full house but the cool thing is I have my room all to myself. The guest bed was moved into daddy's den. So much room! I hope the move is permanent but I know daddy doesn't.

I love this crawling stuff. I have improved tremendously since mommy posted the video of me last week. I'm like The Flash crawling across the floor. With this added mobility, I have become the terror everyone expected. Nothing is safe from my wrath. If it's paper, I'll tear it or eat it or both. If it is anything and I mean anything else I will taste it. I enjoy testing my new teeth so I bite too. Ask mommy to see her bruises where I have tested my mastication abilities. I hope everyone is having a great start to their week.

I'm crawling!

Kana had her 9 month well baby check today. She is 23lbs,7oz (still just off the charts for height and weight). She's allergic to dairy, so we'll keep her on soy for awhile. She tried meat for the first time. She loved it! No surprise really, she doesn't dislike any food. She grabbed the ground turkey meat by the handful and shoved it into her mouth. She also loves tofu and every veggie and fruit we've given her. She's over that mashed stuff, she only wants finger foods!

She just started crawling yesterday. She is very exited about it! She laughs and babbles all day. This is a really fun age! She's getting lots of new teeth coming in.
Check out the fancy footwork in her crawling video...

Test Results Are In...

Kana's test results from the ultrasound showed "Slight left renal pelvocaliectasis"... We have to discuss options with her doctor, but hopefully we can wait it out without medication for a few months and then retest. We have an appointment next week, so we will know more then.
Kana is feeling great, but every time she gets cranky, I worry that she is sick again. ...Nope, she's just hungry. ;o) She has been sleeping A LOT lately, 12 hours a night plus 4 hours of naps. She must be going through another growth spurt! She really enjoys her beauty rest. (I guess she is making up for the first 6 months when she wouldn't sleep at all!) She is very strong, and flexible, as you can see. She loves chewing on her toes.
Lot's of new teeth are about to pop through. She thinks it's really fun to bite everyone on the arm! She is still obsessed with Kiwi's bone and will try to crawl to it with her military crawl/scoot across the carpet. Kiwi taught her to fetch with her rubber ducky in the bath, it's hilarious! He is the one throwing to her from the side of the tub! I have to catch that on video!

A Star is Born

I can't help it if I'm cute. Really, I can't. I was at the hospital today to get my ultrasound and people were flocking to me. The nurses were calling in their friends to see how cute and entertaining I am. I don't know what it is about being clad solely in a diaper but I get all hyped up. I giggle and clap my feet, roll from back to front and front to back , laughing and screeching. All the nurses told mommy I should do commercials. If only it was that easy but hey I'll throw it out there. If any casting director wants to pay me the big bucks to use my likeness on their product or need my services as an actress don't hesitate to call. Gerber baby, watch out.
Oh yeah about the test. I won't know anything for probably a week but I'm sure it will turn out AOK.
We have a big weekend planned at Fiesta Hermosa and swimming with Papa and Gramma. Have a spectacular Memorial Weekend and say a prayer for all those who served and didn't make it back. I haven't been around long but I'm very grateful.

Good News

I got the death row reprieve call from the Governor this morning. Less than 2 hours before I was to undergo my rather uncomfortable procedure my Pediatrician called to cancel it. I can thank mommy for this because she appealed to the Supreme Court. Well it wasn't the Supreme Court, just another doctor I first saw when I was sick. The two docs consulted and concluded that the VCUG test was unnecessary at this time due to my quick recovery and the followup tests being negative(that means good). I still have my ultrasound on Friday but no catheter for me. Woohoooo! The best thing about this is Daddy stayed home from work today to help me take care of Mommy after the procedure. (I think she would have been worse off than me after it was over.) We get to have fun today instead of spending time at the hospital. Gotta go. I think Mommy and Daddy are getting ready to take me to the beach or Costco, or both. I hope both! ;o)

Testing tomorrow

Kana is scheduled for the VCUG test at the hospital tomorrow & the renal ultrasound on Friday. The nurses better watch out because she is going to put up a fight! She has to stay on antibiotics until the test results come back. We really hope there is no permanent kidney damage and that this is all over soon!

She melted down when I was teaching at 24Hr again today. She didn't even last a minute in Kids Club when she realized I wasn't there. I even timed out her nap and bottle early so she would be in the best mood possible. It didn't work. They finally had to bring her into my class to stop her from crying. She was so excited to watch everyone work out! She was laughing and squealing and giving me zerberts on my arm, lovely sound effects for pilates. Fun for all. I may not be teaching that class much longer...

a special photo for gramma

As you can see, Kana is feeling much better lately. She is getting more teeth and some fluffy hair! She is trying to figure out how to crawl and enjoys rolling all over the living room screeching. Daddy really loves the high pitched echo when she does it in the bath tub. We are pretty sure the neighbors enjoy it as well. ;o) Everyone tells us she should be in commercials with that face. She waves and smiles at people in the store. She loves the attention.
She had a follow up appointment with her pediatrician today. We were hoping to get some good news, but it looks like she will still have to do the tests for her kidneys at the hospital. They wanted to use a catheter for her urine test today but we begged to let her use the bag for a sample instead. The tests are going to be traumatizing enough. She already screams when she see's the nurses now. She used to love them, but not after that emergency room visit. She was staring them down, giving them dirty looks today. Her doctor put her back on antibiotics until the testing is done and gave her a cream for the new rash that developed on her skin (possibly from the antibiotics, lovely). We are hoping this is all over soon. It's been a rough month.

Swimmin'

I had my first swimming lesson yesterday. We sang some songs. I floated on my back, kicked my feet a bit, dunked my head......... I did not like that last part. It kind of ruined my swim. I was a little overwhelmed at the size of this bathtub we were in. In the end mommy was soaked because she had her work clothes on and I wanted her to hold me. That's the kind of thing a good mommy does, gives you wet hugs when she is wearing white linen pants. I am looking forward to next Tuesday for some more swimming.

Mother's Day Weekend

Kana had a very exciting day today. We started the day with a fun morning workout at the sand dunes in Manhattan Beach. Then she got to meet up with her friends for an early Mother's Day BBQ. She was so excited to get out of the house to play with everyone again! She's been smiling and laughing all day!
Here are some photos from the past month... enjoy the fashion show!

test results

The pediatrician called with the test results and the culture showed a kidney problem. They increased her antibiotics, scheduled a follow up appt. on the 15th and ordered more testing at the hospital. ;o( We are not looking forward to that.
She hasn't slept much all week, neither have we. She just wants to be held, poor little baby. She has a doggie stuffed animal that she uses as a pacifier now. She won't go to bed without sucking on his ears or tail, it's pretty cute. She likes to roll onto her side to nap also. She is energetic in the day, playing with Nana, but she has a rough time at night. Her tummy has been making her pretty cranky. She is not too fond of the nasty strawberry tasting antibiotics. Her appetite is back up though, so she must be feeling a little better.
Her latest obsession is doing whatever mommy is doing. She wants to drink from my cup, eat from my plate, sit up like me, brush her teeth with me, lay her head on the pillow like me... she's in such a hurry to be a big kid.
The good news is that she is cleared to play with her friends and resume her activities, so as long as she is feeling up to it, she can attend her 1st "mommy & me" swim lesson with daddy next week. ;o) She loves the water, so we really think she will enjoy it! Don't worry, I'll have the camera and video ready to catch all the action so everyone can see!
