Test Results Are In...

Kana's test results from the ultrasound showed "Slight left renal pelvocaliectasis"... We have to discuss options with her doctor, but hopefully we can wait it out without medication for a few months and then retest. We have an appointment next week, so we will know more then.
Kana is feeling great, but every time she gets cranky, I worry that she is sick again. ...Nope, she's just hungry. ;o) She has been sleeping A LOT lately, 12 hours a night plus 4 hours of naps. She must be going through another growth spurt! She really enjoys her beauty rest. (I guess she is making up for the first 6 months when she wouldn't sleep at all!) She is very strong, and flexible, as you can see. She loves chewing on her toes.
Lot's of new teeth are about to pop through. She thinks it's really fun to bite everyone on the arm! She is still obsessed with Kiwi's bone and will try to crawl to it with her military crawl/scoot across the carpet. Kiwi taught her to fetch with her rubber ducky in the bath, it's hilarious! He is the one throwing to her from the side of the tub! I have to catch that on video!

A Star is Born

I can't help it if I'm cute. Really, I can't. I was at the hospital today to get my ultrasound and people were flocking to me. The nurses were calling in their friends to see how cute and entertaining I am. I don't know what it is about being clad solely in a diaper but I get all hyped up. I giggle and clap my feet, roll from back to front and front to back , laughing and screeching. All the nurses told mommy I should do commercials. If only it was that easy but hey I'll throw it out there. If any casting director wants to pay me the big bucks to use my likeness on their product or need my services as an actress don't hesitate to call. Gerber baby, watch out.
Oh yeah about the test. I won't know anything for probably a week but I'm sure it will turn out AOK.
We have a big weekend planned at Fiesta Hermosa and swimming with Papa and Gramma. Have a spectacular Memorial Weekend and say a prayer for all those who served and didn't make it back. I haven't been around long but I'm very grateful.

Good News

I got the death row reprieve call from the Governor this morning. Less than 2 hours before I was to undergo my rather uncomfortable procedure my Pediatrician called to cancel it. I can thank mommy for this because she appealed to the Supreme Court. Well it wasn't the Supreme Court, just another doctor I first saw when I was sick. The two docs consulted and concluded that the VCUG test was unnecessary at this time due to my quick recovery and the followup tests being negative(that means good). I still have my ultrasound on Friday but no catheter for me. Woohoooo! The best thing about this is Daddy stayed home from work today to help me take care of Mommy after the procedure. (I think she would have been worse off than me after it was over.) We get to have fun today instead of spending time at the hospital. Gotta go. I think Mommy and Daddy are getting ready to take me to the beach or Costco, or both. I hope both! ;o)

Testing tomorrow

Kana is scheduled for the VCUG test at the hospital tomorrow & the renal ultrasound on Friday. The nurses better watch out because she is going to put up a fight! She has to stay on antibiotics until the test results come back. We really hope there is no permanent kidney damage and that this is all over soon!

She melted down when I was teaching at 24Hr again today. She didn't even last a minute in Kids Club when she realized I wasn't there. I even timed out her nap and bottle early so she would be in the best mood possible. It didn't work. They finally had to bring her into my class to stop her from crying. She was so excited to watch everyone work out! She was laughing and squealing and giving me zerberts on my arm, lovely sound effects for pilates. Fun for all. I may not be teaching that class much longer...

a special photo for gramma

As you can see, Kana is feeling much better lately. She is getting more teeth and some fluffy hair! She is trying to figure out how to crawl and enjoys rolling all over the living room screeching. Daddy really loves the high pitched echo when she does it in the bath tub. We are pretty sure the neighbors enjoy it as well. ;o) Everyone tells us she should be in commercials with that face. She waves and smiles at people in the store. She loves the attention.
She had a follow up appointment with her pediatrician today. We were hoping to get some good news, but it looks like she will still have to do the tests for her kidneys at the hospital. They wanted to use a catheter for her urine test today but we begged to let her use the bag for a sample instead. The tests are going to be traumatizing enough. She already screams when she see's the nurses now. She used to love them, but not after that emergency room visit. She was staring them down, giving them dirty looks today. Her doctor put her back on antibiotics until the testing is done and gave her a cream for the new rash that developed on her skin (possibly from the antibiotics, lovely). We are hoping this is all over soon. It's been a rough month.

Swimmin'

I had my first swimming lesson yesterday. We sang some songs. I floated on my back, kicked my feet a bit, dunked my head......... I did not like that last part. It kind of ruined my swim. I was a little overwhelmed at the size of this bathtub we were in. In the end mommy was soaked because she had her work clothes on and I wanted her to hold me. That's the kind of thing a good mommy does, gives you wet hugs when she is wearing white linen pants. I am looking forward to next Tuesday for some more swimming.

Mother's Day Weekend

Kana had a very exciting day today. We started the day with a fun morning workout at the sand dunes in Manhattan Beach. Then she got to meet up with her friends for an early Mother's Day BBQ. She was so excited to get out of the house to play with everyone again! She's been smiling and laughing all day!
Here are some photos from the past month... enjoy the fashion show!

test results

The pediatrician called with the test results and the culture showed a kidney problem. They increased her antibiotics, scheduled a follow up appt. on the 15th and ordered more testing at the hospital. ;o( We are not looking forward to that.
She hasn't slept much all week, neither have we. She just wants to be held, poor little baby. She has a doggie stuffed animal that she uses as a pacifier now. She won't go to bed without sucking on his ears or tail, it's pretty cute. She likes to roll onto her side to nap also. She is energetic in the day, playing with Nana, but she has a rough time at night. Her tummy has been making her pretty cranky. She is not too fond of the nasty strawberry tasting antibiotics. Her appetite is back up though, so she must be feeling a little better.
Her latest obsession is doing whatever mommy is doing. She wants to drink from my cup, eat from my plate, sit up like me, brush her teeth with me, lay her head on the pillow like me... she's in such a hurry to be a big kid.
The good news is that she is cleared to play with her friends and resume her activities, so as long as she is feeling up to it, she can attend her 1st "mommy & me" swim lesson with daddy next week. ;o) She loves the water, so we really think she will enjoy it! Don't worry, I'll have the camera and video ready to catch all the action so everyone can see!

ER

Kana had her 1st trip to the ER early Sunday morning. We had to go back in to see a Pediatrician today when her fever spiked again. Kana was miserable, screaming and crying all morning and I was fortunate enough to be on the receiving end of her regurgitated breakfast all over my shirt. I am so glad we have a washer and dryer and Kiwi to clean up after her. After a short nap I got a bottle and some Tylenol into her and once she got to Kaiser she was all smiles for the doctor. He said she looked like the Gerber Baby. Kana certainly knows how to behave in public. She got two big shots of medicine to the legs. Test results should be in tomorrow night, so we will find out what she has, but they suspect a kidney infection. She has been throwing up and running a high fever for 3 days now. Poor little baby. She's having a rough time. Her arms are purple and splotchy because the ER nurse couldn't find her vein for the blood tests with all the rolls in the way. Now she has two swollen red legs to go with it. She's really tired of being poked and prodded. Lets hope the antibiotics work and she gets better soon. She has bursts of energy and smiles from time to time, so we hope she is feeling a little better.

I'm 8 months old today! (Can you believe it?!)

My top tooth is just barely poking through. It's making me a little fussy lately and I'm drooling like crazy! I'm really enjoying new finger foods. No crawling yet, but I am determined to steal Kiwi's bone, so that might just be the motivation that gets me moving. The rolling in a circle and screaming is not the most direct route, but I find it the easiest for now. I am also enjoying getting stuck in my crib. Mommy puts me down with plenty fo room above my head and below my feet but I lik to make a 90 degree turn and wedge myself widthwise in the crib.
